OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT,

“THE SKY SKIDDER.i’

Something entirely different from the ordinary run of “thrill” pictures is to he seen in “The Sky Slddder,” a Universal production, starring Al Wilson, which will he screened at the Opera House to-night. It deals with tire adventures, w rather misadven--tures, of a young aviator who had invented a, “fuel” which he claimed would propel a plane 1000 miles on a pint, and when he puts his claim to a test before an assembly of. doubting Thomases and fails he is .satisfied that a human agency had been at the back of the failure and he sets out to establish this belief. Eventually he participates in a plane race, which he wins and incidentally learns the cause, of his erstwhile failure, and with the prize money from the race is able to carry on and prove the truth of his claim as to the fuel. Al Wilson plays the role of the young inventor in liis usual invigorating manner, and is ably supported by pretty Helen Foster, a delightful young star, who promises to become a popular favourite in a very short time. Others in the cast include Wilbur Mack and Peewee Holmes. The ■supporting programme will include series No. 2 of “The Pacemakers,” News reel, cartoon, and comedy. “WENGS.” Described by critics as one of the finest war pictures “Wings,” the Paramount picture of war in the air, will open at the Opera House on Wednesday next. The picture deals in a realistic manner with the part played by aeroplanes in the Great War. The filming of the aerial scene® provided many thrills, both for the actors and (he cameramen, who were forced to take many risks in order to obtain the desired effects. Several of the players and the director of the picture had had actual experience in the various aerial corps in the war, and were aide to create "the desired atmosphere. In one scene it was necessary for the cameraman to he seated in a. small compartment of an aeroplane, immediately above 12001 b of high explosive, in order to more accurately obtain the effect of the machine bombing a French village. Throughout the story runs an appealing romance. The principal players are Clara Bow, Charles Rogers and Richard Arlen. On the same programme will be an introductorv film to “Wings” . entitled “Knights of the Air.” telling the story of aviation from its infanev. The box: plan is now open at Miss Blake’s.
