It is understood that the shipping companies for some time have been endeavouring to obtain a reduction in the heavy costs of handling steamers in Australia, notable lightening charges, and have been -in communication with the Commonwealth Government in that connection. If it iS found impossible 'for the companies to obtain any amelioration from the present oppressive ’ conditions, the question of revision of freights will further be considered. CONCERN IN AUSTRALIA. CANBERRA, -Dee. 7. The -threats of increased- shipping freights between Australia and England is causing -the Commonwealth Government concern. The Prime Minister, Mr S. M. Bruce, stated to-day that if the freights were increased there would be an outcry both here and in England.
