Mr M. P. Purser, who has been seriously indisposed, is now making rapid progress toward recovery, and 1 will leave the hospital within the next day or two.
Archbishop Redwood, Archbishop O’Shea, the Very Rev. Dr. Mcßae, chancellor of the archdiocese of Welllington. and the Rev. Father A. Cullen, B.Sc., of St. Bede’s College, are visiting Hawera for the opening of St. Joseph’s Church to-morrow. They are the guests of Father Cullen. At the monthly meeting of the executive committee’of the South Taranaki Returned Soldiers’ Association a letter accepting the appointment ah honorary solicitor to the association in place of H. L. -Spratt , was received from Mr G. Smart, of Hawera.
The return to Parliament as the Patea representative' of Mr H. G. Dickie, who- is a returned soldier, was referred to at the monthly meeting of the executive committee of the South Taranaki Returned Soldiers’ Association last 'evening, and on the motion \ef Mr W. H. Corkill, seconded by the president (Mr S. R. A 7 catch)) it was resolved to forward a. letter of congratulation to Mr Dickie. , A Press Association message from AA 7 ellington announces the death of Mr. James Edward Fulton, aged 73, one of the best-known engineers in the Dominion, who was for eight years manager and locomotive superintendent of the Wellington-Manawatu railway. He designed and built the Kelburn tramway at A\ 7 ellington, and built many bridges for the Government and local bodies all over New Zealand. He retired from business in 1926. He leaves a widow and one daughter.
