It is authoritatively stated that opposition to the peace pact appeared in the committee stage in the Senate, initiated by Senator Rce-d, of Missouri, who has forced the calling of Mr. Kellogg on Friday. The opposition was based on the ground that the- treaty “would lead the United States into the- world courtby the back door.” It is believed that further hearings will be sought after Mr.' Kellogg testifies, thus delaying Senator Borah’s plan for an immediate and favourablereport to the Senate. Received 9.45 a.m. to-dav. WASHINGTON. Dec. 5. Consideration of the Kellogg treaty was deferred to-day by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee until Friday, when Mr. Kellogg has been asked to appear.
