PERSONAL ITEMS.
At the monthly meeting of the South Taranaki Fanners’ Union executive today a welcome was accorded by the president (Mr E, J. Bettsjf to Messrs L. F. Bell (Makoia) and J. A. Pettigrew (Opunake) who are new members of the executive and presidents of their 3’espective re-formed branches.
One of the pioneer settlers of the Opunake district, Mir J. C. Hickey, who arrived there in 1879 and was for a number of years a member of the Armed Constabulary, celebrated his eighty-third birthday 'last week. He m remarkably fit physically and mentally. Ho still goes out with In’s dogs coursing, a sport on which he has always be.en keen, and keeps closely in touch with ah the current event's of the idlaiy.
