“NATIONAL SHOP WINDOW.”

SCHEME FOR 1929 WINTER SHOW Mention was made at the last meeting of the Winter Show Executive of the fact that the scheme of a “National Shop Window Week” would be one of the features of the 1929 show. An. endorsement of the scheme has been received from the British Trade Commissioner (Mr. L. B. Beale), who interested himself in the question while at Home recently and had letters forwarded to the British Department of Oversea® Trade, through which the scheme was brought under the notice of chambers of commerce and leading associations. A circular letter broadcast through England .stressed the fact that the South Taranaki Winter Show . was “one of the principal shows in New Zealand, an excellent opportunity for United Kingdom manufacturers to spread a knowledge of their wares in one of the most progressive farming areas in the Dominion.” It was added that “Mr. Beale regarded the Hawera Show as an important undertaking, and 1 wished it to be kept British.” Special reference was made to the 1928 show and to the “well-mounted and strikingly presented exhibit of Empire Marketing Board) posters, whi li attracted widespread attention . ’ ’

Messrs. Bennett and Sutton, of Hawera, are in receipt of two letters, one from their London. buyers and another form a large, firm* of agricultural engineers in Leigh (Lancashire), approving of the suggested Empire exhibit. The latter offered* ‘ ‘to provide machines for exhibition of special show finish.” The show secretary has also received letters indicating that the scheme has the approval of the departments interested and also of some of the large British firms. It will serve to carry one step further ihe idea of strengthening the bonds . of Empire unity, which has been since 1917 prominently associated with the Winter Show of South Taranaki.
