FACILITIES FOR VOTING.
POLLING DAY PROVISIONS. WEEKLY HALF-HOLIDAY . Statutory provisions of the Electoral Act of, 1927 dealing with the effect on the shop weekly-half-holiday of'general election day which’ - falls qn November 14 and the opportunity to be allowed to factory employees to visit pooling booths are outlined in a circular letter issued by the Department qf Labour, a copy of which , has been received by the Inspector of Factories at Hawera (Mr L. Hunt). ■ Detailing the provisions, the letter points out that, in election week, the half holiday observed under the Shops and Office© Act shall .be granted on polling day. Where a change is required it shall not be necessary, to also observe a- half holiday on the usual day, -■ ,-L '/vLL Factories, however, are not- required to- close during working hours on polling day, but employees must be allowed reasonable time, not exceeding one hour, to record their, votes without ieduction from wages. Offence against these provisions of the Act renders the offender liable to a fine of £5.
