KAPONGA BAND CARNIVAL.
“BLUE” CANDIDATE DANCE. Unfavourable weather rather detracted from the attendance at the grand dance and 500 “flag”, tournament held in the Town Hall last evening in support of the “Blue” candidate for the JLvaponga Band Carnival. Despite adverse conditions, however, there was a fair attendance of over 40 couples, while 40 players took part in a 500 “flag”, tournament arranged for nondancers. The latter was won by Misses I. and A. Melville. Hilda Guy and Mr W. Sadler. Mr N.. Marr officiated as M.O. and dance music was supplied by the Kaponga Municipal Band and Boulton’s orchestra. During the supper recess Miss G. Emmi'tt (Hawera) and Mrs 1. Evans played for extra dances. A feature was provided in the form of exhibitions of the “Tango”, and “Yale Blues” dances by Miss Kitty Harper and Mr J. It. Kelly, of Stratford. Air H. Scott, also of Stratford', played the accompaniments/ A' competition, for which the prize was dressed poultry, donated by Mr and Mrs J. TattersalJ, was won by Mr F. Albon. Supper was supplied by a committee of ladies consisting of Mesdames F. Albon, R.. G. Cook, h. Shepherd, G; W. S., Bell, J. T'attersall and ! P. V. Harding, •in the service of which they were assisted by Messrs J. Albon, W. Marr, A. Fraser and J. Tattersall. A meed qf more than ordinary praise* is due t.o Mrs «L Tattersail, organiser, for the success of the function: On behalf of the committee, Mr Marr thanked* Miss Harper and Mr Kelly for their exhibition of dancing and ready acquiescence to an unanimous request for a repetition of the “French Tango.”
