YESTERDAY’S SITTING. At tlie Elltham Magistrate’s Court! yesterday, Mr R. W. late, S.M., gavel judgment for the plaintiff with costs added in the following undefended civil cases:— State Advances Department v. Samuel Love, claim £l2 18s Sd; 'Matilda Jane Henry v. Christopher Gleutwortli £lO 8s; Stewart and Hill v. B. A. Martin, £6 9s, BREACHES OF REGULATIONS The following convictions were entered© for breaches of the Motor Vehicles Regulations:— Alan Gordon Wright, of Auckland, was fined 20s, with £1 l’ls costs for driving a motor car at 10 p.m. on September 22, on the Mountain Road, Eltham, without a headlight. Through the county inspector defendant explained that his headlights failed and his only resource was to use the spotlight. Gn a similar charge, Peter Cameron, Mangamahu, was fined 20s and £1 13s costs and was convicted and was ordered to pay 12s costs on a further charge of displaying no tail light. For driving a motor car over an E!l----tham street intersection at 4.30 p.m. on September 23, at a speed dangerous to the: public, Jack Arthur Johnston was mulcted in a penalty of 20s, with £1 ll s costs, evidence being given that defendant drove at the rate of 30 miles an hour over the crossing. A CHIMNEY AFIRE. C. R. Johnston was convicted of allowing a chimney in his residence to catch fire and was ordered to pay court costs, 3s.
