, By service oar yesterday, Mr Alan Good who has been away in Scflith Africa with the All Blacks, returned to Hawera. Mr G. Murray Page, who will take up the position of manager of the local branch of W. D. and H. O. Wills, Ltd., vice Mr Iv. Tyree, transferred to Invercargill, has arrived in- Hawera. Mr Page- was manager of the Invercargill branch. The Earl of Orford, who will arrive at Wellington by the Ituahine to-mor-row, intends to spend a long holiday in New Zealand. He first visited the Dominion while he was in the >Boyal Navy. Indifferent health is one of tho reasons prompting his visit 'to New Zealand. He will he accompanied by the Countess of Orford.

The professorial board of Canterbury College last night decided to nominate for selection as a Rhodes scholar Mr. ■Philip Leonard Matthew Soljak. Mr. Soljak, who is 21 years of age, attended the Tauranga District High School and the Marist Bros. School at Auckland. In 1921 he entered the Sacred Heart College, Auckland, with a- scholarship. He was dux of the school in 1924 and 1925, in the latter year winning a Junior University Scholarship and entering Canterbury College. In 1926- he was awarded a Robert Bell Scholarship in journalism at the college.. He is a. member of the Dramatic Society, and gained second place in the Dialectic Society’s competitions in 1926. He played in the second evade football team in _ 1926 and 1921’, and was runner-up in the college swimming championship.
