NEW ZEALANDER'S AT SAN FRANCISCO. (Australian Press Association —United Service.) SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 9. The New Zealand bowlers tied with San Francisco Scottish in team matches to-dav, but lost on points by GO to Go. PARK CLUB’S OFFICIAL OPENING. UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER. The official opening of the 1928-9 season of the Park Bowling Club was held yesterday afternoon, and although the t'climatic conditions were anything but favourable (play being impossible), there was a fair attendance of members a.ml enthusiasts. Members of -other elubs .were in attendance. Afternoon tea. was provided by a- ladies’ committee under the direction of Mrs F. Quin. The -president of the club, Mr F. Quin, in a. short speech, expressed his- regret at the unfavourable weather, with the words “Man proposes, God disposes. Members of the Opunako, Waver]ey and Paten, clubs had signified their intention of being present to-day,’’ he added, “but even our own members have not tunned up in full force, owing no doubt to the boisterous weather.” The 1928-9 season was officially declared open by Airs F. Quin rolling up the jack amidst enthusiastic cheers. Air G. A. Burgess, president of the Hawera- Bowling Club, expressed his pleasure on behalf of his club for the invitation to be present, and in proposing the toast of sister clubs expressed his regret that the weather was against playing. “There -would have been a large attendance of visiting bowlers- had the weather been more- kind,” said Air Burgess, “but we must -take things as wo find -them. The first thing that impressed me was the pretty suro-rundings. The green is in great order and reflects credit upon' the -members of the Park Club for the work they have put in during the winter months. On behalf of tho members -of the Hawera Club, I wish to thank you ancl I wish your club every success it is possible to wish you,” concluded the speaker.
