PEDIGREE BULL FAIR.

KAPONGA JERSEY OLEB SALE. GOOD PRICES REALISED. i The ninth annual pedigree Jersey bull fair, under the auspices of the Kaponga Jersey Club, held in Newton King’s sale pavilion at Kaponga yesterday, was well attended, buyers being present from as far afield as Waikato and the Ray of Plenty. It was satisfactory t 0 note, however, that only a very small proportion of the classic- 1 ally-bred animals, which changed hands were purchased by transfer beyond the province. In a total of 82 bulls sold, yearlings averaged IGJgiis, two-year-olds 32igns, three-year-olds 31gns. and two matured bulls averaged 21gns. The sale realised a total of 757'gns. Fox’s- Chief, broil by Mr \Y. A. Guy, Alatapu, ami purchased by .Mr D. P. F. Malone, topped the market in tlie yearling section at 40gns. Among the two-year-olds, Mr R. J. Morris’s Thornilale Golden Glory, purchased by Mr J. Feron, Eltham, for 62gns, brought the highest price at the fair. During Mr Morris’s seven years’ career as a vendor of pedigree Jerseys bred by himself he has enjoyed the distinction of topping the market at Kaponga in 1924, 1925. 1927 and 1928 and at Stratford in 1923. His stock invariably enters the sale ring in excellent condition and Thorndale Guillen Glory was no exception to the rule. He is a deep bodied, beautifully skinned animal, fit for any show ring. On two previous occasions Mr Morris has headed the Kaponga market with bulls- by Golden Rimu, the sire of Thorndale Golden Glory.

Another typical two-year-old, Zola’s, Prince, bred by the late Mr E. Joyce, and purchased by Mr S>. Stuart, Ray of Plenty, evoked spirited bidding and changed ownership at 45gns. Greendale Master, also bred by the late Mr Joyce, brought the highest price i'u the three-year-olil section, being purchased bv Mr Sharp, Matapu, for 50gns. Seven three-year-olds were sold at prices ranging from 50 to 22gns-. while the same number of two-year-olds realised from 62 to 17gns. On the whole bidding was fairly brisk and keen due regard being i>aid to good, proven butterfat backing. Messrs W. B. Fearon (Hawera) and Claud , Williams- (Stratford) again proved themselves capable salesmen and, well supported by the firm’s clerical, yard and ring staffs, expeditiously conducted the sale.
