MANAWATU WOMEN'S TOURNEY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Oct. 6. The women's championship of the Manawatu Golf Club was decided this morning under ideal conditions, when Mrs H. Collinson, the holder of the title, retained the championship by defeating Miss N. Moore, another ex-club champion, 3 and 2 in the final. The unsuccessful semi-finalists were Misses W. Scott and G: Seifert, Mrs Collinson eliminating tlie former, and Miss Moore the latter. Both Mrs Collinson and Miss Moore drove well, Mrs Collinson getting a better length. Miss Moore, however, had difficulties with her short game, this being in a large measure responsible for her defeat, Mrs. Collinson was 1 up at the turn, her figures for the outward journey being 43, Miss Moore requiring five more for the distance. After the turn the first three holes t were halved', the thirteenth going to* Miss Moore, the match being again squared. Mrs Collinson then forged ahead, taking the next three holes. in 5, 4 and 5, 'and: winning the match 3 and 2, and with it the championship. Mrs Collingson's tally for the 16 holes was 76, and Miss Moore's 83.

HAWERA MEN’S CLUB., • LABOUR DAY TOURNEY. Am event of interest to golfers in this district will be the tourney to be held on Saturday, October 20, for which entries close on Monday next, October 15. It will extend over three, days, when there will be played the South Taranaki -amateur, championship and the Fairfield handicap. For the championwhip there will be a qualifying round of eighteen . holes, the. first sixteen to qualify, and then on the foliowing days will be played the eliminating rounds. The second sixteen in- the qualifying round will contest the handicap event in a way similar-ito the championship. In conjunction with these events will he medal handicap and teams' match on the first day, bogey and inedal handicaps on the second day, and bogey and four-ball handicaps on the third day. ■ Each day also there will be continuous putting competition's, so that interest will be sustained throughout the tourney for players of all- grades. It is to foe noted that the opening of the tourney will be at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday and that play will commence each other day at 8.30 a.m., with the championship final at 1 p.m. on Monday and the' handicap final at 12.30 p.m. on that day. The tourney is creating keen interest in all the clubs from New Plymouth to Wanganui, and large entries l , including many of the best players, ere expected. Programmes, and entry, forms are available at all clubs and from the Hawera committee—Messrs W. G. Walkley, L. J. Bull, W. Jansen, and L. H. Little (hon. secretary for the tourney). NEW PLYMOUTH MEN’S 'CLUIB. At Waiwakaiho on Saturday, H. Williams with a net score of 76 (handicap 14), and S. 'Russell with 71 (handicap 24), won the trophies for senior and junior medal handicap matches respectively. ELIUIAiM LADIES’ CLUB. . In the play-off in the final foe the Sylvia Cup, Miss Wanklyn beat Mrs H. Wills. 'The closing day for the. season for ladies will be on Friday, when various competition's will be.held..
