SCOTLAND YARD.
ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER TO RETIRE.

LONDON, Oct. 7
The “Daily Mail” states that the Assistant Commissioner at Scotland Yard, Major-General Sir William Childs, will retire with the Commissioner, Brigadier-General Sir William Horwood, on November 6. Lord Byng will succeed Sir W. Horwood. The Home Secretary, Sir William JoynsonHicks, is searching for a new Assist-ant-Commissioner.
Sir William Childs denies the statement that he will speak but at the right time .He has not hinted at any revelations, which are absurd fiction. “When a man leaves a public position such as -Scotland Yard,” he said, “he must dismiss from his mind any knowledge acquired; otherwise lie would be unfit to be an Englishman.” Certain newspapers hint at further resignations from Scotland Yard.
