THE SEASON’S ARRANGEMENTS, j HAWERA TEAMS'SELECTED. J The selection committee of the Hawera Cricket Club met on Saturday evening in furtherance of the decision to pick two teams as nearly equal as possible, and made the selection for the season. In view of the decision of the Hawear Club to select teams, members held a practice on Saturday, each player being given 10 minutes in order to let the selectors see them’in action. This made a very interesting afternoon. Old Boys had net practice during the afternoon. OKAIAWA v. KAPONGA. Under perfect weather conditions a.n enjoyable game was played at Okaiawa on Saturday between the local team and Kaponga, 'Okaiawa batted first, and put up the fair score of 134. Only four of the batsmen reached doub’e figures, these being A. Betts (47), Murdoch (17), Thomas (15 not out), and Linn (24). The successful bowers were Joseph son (two for 7), Harri son (two for 31), S. Betts (two for 21), and Albon (three for none). The last-named bowler secured his three wickets with nine balls. Kaponga then took the crease, but were quickly disposed of for 54 nuns. Crawford and A. Betts were tlie_d«stroyin.fr agents, the former securing five wickets for for 20 and the latter four for 17, Linn getting the tenth wicket at a cost of five runs. The visitors carried on and l did better in their second innings, which closed with the score owlv one short- of the century, Harrison (21), Josephson (23), Abbott (16) and “Mr Extras” (11) being the double-figure men. Linn took two wickets for 7 Wilkie two for 23. Thomas one for 15. and Penny five for 32.
