LAST WEEK’S BUSINESS. Newton King Ltcl. report for the week ending October 6 as under: Beef. —Supplies are still limited, with the result that prices have not eased since our last report. Small numbers of fat bullocks and oows have been coming forward to the open market and have been subject to keen competition, sales being effected as follows : Prime heavy fat bullocks £l-5 2s (3d to £IG ss, lighter sorts £l2 2s Gd to £l4 L4s Gd, heavy fat cows £l2 7s Gd to £l2 15s, medium weights £9 7s 6d to £lO 7s, fat heifers £lO to /£ll. Sheep.—Some difficulty is still being experienced in fulfilling requirements in this section, consequently prices ate still very firm Sales for the few lines offering have been effected as follows: Fat wethers £2 to £2 As, extra heavy fat ewes £2 2s, lighter 3-ls to 3Gs, prime fat hoggets 395. Store Sheep.—The inquiry in this section is still very strong' and the limited lines offering are meeting with a ready sale. Few lines of any consequence are being submitted in the open market. Sales through the medium of private treaty have been effected as follows: Four-year ewes with lambs at foot £2 5s to £2 os 6d, fat and forward, wethers 38s Gd, good framed store ewes 26s 9d, poorer conditioned sorts 20s to 225, m.s. hoggets 30s to 325.

Store Cattle. —The shortage in this class is much in evidence by the limited number offering.' The yearling heifer market is still very firm, and as only a limited number of choice sorts are being submitted prices for those possessing any quality have a tendency to harden. Sales in the open market have been effected as follows: ‘Good quality Jerseys, mostly fawns, £7 5s Gel to .£7 10s, medium quality sorts £5 15s to £6 ss, small ane mixed coloured sorts £3 to t'4. Tli rough the medium of private treaty, sales for choice lines have been effected up to £B. Dairy Cattle.—Very few choice animals 1 are being submitted and as the demand is still strong those possessed of any quality are subject to spirited bidding. Prices ruling in this section are as follows : Choice dairy cows in fuiii milk oj- at the chop £l6 to £l3, medium sorts £l2 to £l4, old and backward £8 to £9 10s; choice heifers at the ■drop up to £l6 10s. medium sorts £ll to £l3. small and backward £7 to £B. Pigs.—Keen" competition is stiil inf evidence at the good yarding* of stores that are coming forward, prices ruling being as follows: Large stores 27s to 31s, smaller sorts 22s to 245, choice wenners 18s to 21s, medium sorts 12s to 14s, .vinal : 8s Gel to 10s..
