PLUNKET SOCIETY.

AFFAIRS OF HAWERA BRANCH VISIT FROM MISS PATTR4CK. Miss •Pattriek, director general of Plunkct Nursing, who is making a tour of inspection of all Plunket Nursery branches from Wanganui, to New Plymouth, was in Hawera on Tuesday. In the morning she inspected the rooms, and then went throguh the office records with Nurse Dix. In the af temokm she attended a meeting of the committee, which was held in the lounge of the .Savoy Tea Rooms. There was a very good attendance of the committee, almost every member being present, while members of the Opunake sub-branch were also in attendance. Miss Pattriek made mention of the rapid growth of the Plnnket work in New Zealand, England and .South Africa. ‘ She congratulated the Hawera committee for the very efficient way in which the branch was run; the rooms were bright and cheery, beautifully clean and left nothing to be desired. On studying the balance-sheet she 'Was very pleased to find that the 'branch was one of the most economically run in the Dominion. She laid special stress on this fact, as it had been her previous opinion that Hawera was an expensive branch. Miss Pattriek said the branch was very lucky in its nurse, as Hawera has the largest number- ! of eases and visits of any one nurse branch in the Dominion, and it was owing to the methodical way in which the n'urse dealt with the ' cases that she was able to accomplish so much work. iShe Was very much struck with the nurse’s methods in the , office and her ability to turn up the record of any individual baby as soon as asked for. She had made a note o‘f several of the labour-saving methods used in the office, to pass on to other branches. Mrs Tait (treasurer) was complimented on the very clear way in which the balance-sheet was sot out.

In summing up, Miss .Pattriek said she -had no further suggestions to offer; that in her opinion the branch was entirely satisfactory in every way. At t'h<> end of the meeting afternoon tea was served by the proprietress of the .Savoy (Mrs Sheppard). Later in the afternoon Miss Pat-, trick and the members of the Opunake sub-branch had a disc'ussion as to the advisability of 'Opunake having a resident nurse, the work in that district having; extended so much. In regard to the car belonging to the branch. Miss Paftrick said that it looked like new and she was surprised to hear that it ivas three years old. 'She said it showed that great care was given it and that the running expenses in this connection .were very low. The chief credit for this belonged ’to Mr Jobson, for his ever-willing supervision of the car; without his assistance the branch would not be able to carry on this part of the work so economically.
