SPRING FLOWERS.

MANATA PRESBYTERIAN SHOW: ! A FINE DISPLAY. Despite the unfavourable conditions prevailing of late, there was a good jg.nge in all sections at the eighteenth annual Spring Flower Show, which was held yesterday afternoon and evening. The recent bad weather had adversely affected flowers, and the number of blooms submitted for competition, especially in the narcissi section, but the quality was good. As usual, Mr. Robert Gibson had a big display of blooms- on exhibition, containing* some of his choicest flowers. Prominent on tbe stand was the L. W. Meuli challenge rose bowl, given by the late Lieut. Meuli in 1913 for the champion bloom in the narcissi section. The previous- winners- ha ve been : 1915 and 1916, Mrs. Campbell; 1917, Mrs. H. Vinten ; 1918, Mrs. Campliell; 1919, Mrs. J. Aitken; 1920, Miss R. Gibson ; 1921, Miss Campbell; 1922, Miss R. Gibson; 1923, H. Vinten; 1924-5-6-7, Mrs. D. Mourie. The judges were: Rev. W. W. Avery (Elthain), narcissi and cut blooms; Mrs. W. A. Duckworth, decorative sections.

Mrs. A. Campbell was successful in winning the award for champion narcissus with a. fine long trumpet, and she- also took the points prize in narcissi. Mrs. A. H. Christie secured the points prize in cut blooms with a; re- i markabiv fine variety. Mrs. Gordon won the championshin in cut flowers with a blue hyacinth. It is noteworthy that this was her first ent’-v into flower show competition. Tbe judge commented on the quality of the freesias shown by Mrs. A. H. Christie, and said they were a particularly fine lot. He remarked on the staging of the narcissi, and said this could have been improved. The (Stewards were: Pot plants and decorative. Miss M. Mesdnmes McDonald and Clague and Miss Clague ; sweqts, Miss Bridge and Mrs. C. St-od-dart: games, Mrs. Sutton, with Miss W. McKay, Miss C. Dakers, and .T. Borrie; fish pond, Mesdames L. Stoddnrt and Clements ; refreshments, Mesdnmes Miller, R. Franklin, C. Sproull. Andrews. Aitken, C. Hunger, ami Mi sses Franklin and Johnson .and the Bible Class girls. KV FINING PROG RAMAIE. There was a crowded attendance present in the. evening when a splendid progamme w.-us’ submitted. A teature was the various items given by the Rev. M r Patei son, M. A.. of Wa.ngaimi, each item was thoroughly appreciiited. His items were: “Courage,” “Rusted Logu,” “Three Listeners,” “Philosophy,” and “Bells.” Mrs Douglas, of Mangatoki, captivated the large audience by her various vocal items. The Ri:*v. Miller also gave appreciated songs. During the evening the Rev. Alt Mi Heir heartily thanked the Rev. Mr Paterson. Mis Douglas, and all who had assisted to make the annual flower show such a success. He eulogised the splendid work of the ladies’ committee, and also the work of the competitors.
