TO VISIT HAWERA
INVITATION, TO SQUADiONLEADER, KINGiSFORD SMITH. BOROUGH COUNCIL'S RESOLUTION. A special meeting of the Hawera Brough Council was held tikis morning wtheu the following members were present : Ors. E. Morrissey (deputy Mayor), J. M. Townsend, R-. H. Leece, W. G. Walkley, W. G. Strange, G. J. Bayley, W. G. Simpson, and W. R. Butler. The meeting was called to consider the question of extending an invitation to Squadron-Leader Ivingsford Smith and. his -companions to visit Hawera on his way ‘to Auckland, and on the motion, of Or. Walkley, seconded' by Or. Bayley’, it was unanimously resolved to forward an invitation, to the fliers to include Hawera in their itinerary during the tour through the Dominion. The following telegram was dispatched: “At a special meeting of the Hawera Borough Council held this morning for the purpose, I was directed to invite you to stop ait Hawera on your wav to Auckland on Tuesday. Racecourse here is frequently used as a 'landing place by ’planes travelling between Soutlx Island and Auckland. Petrol and oil available at the racecourse if you will state your requirements. The people of South Taranaki district are anxious to greet you and congratulate you on your achievement-. ” Anticipating a favourable reply, Or. Walkley and the town clerk were appointed to make the necessary arrangements in connection with the visit.
