BASKETBALL.
VISIT OF WELLINGTON TEAAI. DECISIVE WIN FOR VISITORS. A visit is being pa ill ito this district of the Wellington B. representative •tealin; of basketball players, and yesterday afternoon a match took place with a local team, an intercsti-ng feature of which -was the fine 'display -given iby the visitors. Owing .to the adverse weather -conditions, the match was .played in the Winter Show Buildings, main hall, and it resulted i-n a decisive win for t-he visiting nine by 29 goals to six. The teams were as .below: — Wellington—Aiiss'os N. Bell (eapt.), K. Holds worth (vi-ee-ca-pt.), Al. Alan.son, AL Low, L. Kirk, G. Cooper, At. Parker, J. Buck, and Al. White. Hawera —Alis-sos- R. Buiblitz (ca.pt.), Al. Goodger, Ik Ekdahl, E. Smith, B. Walker, V. Sutton, E. Sowerby, W. Shackle-ton and Al. Jackson.
Wellington scored .thirteen goals in the first spoil and sixteen i-n the second —AEiss AL. Low (10), Alls® Al. Bell (10), Ali.ss- Afair.jo.rio AT-an.son (9). For Hawerai Ali.ss P. Ekdahl scored three, Aliisis Al. Goodger two and Alias- R. Bublitz one. The passing of the Wellington players was particularly fine and smart, and won more .than favourable comment from the spectators. Though outmatched, Hawera. made a. game struggle right to. the end of the match. The promoters" of the match with Wellington: acknowledge the courtesy and kindness of the Winter Show executive in allowing the use of the main ball and the hospitality of the Opera House .management who invited the teams to the pictures on Tuesday evening. The Wellington team left for Inglewood and New Plymouth tiffs morning.
