BISOX’S WINTER CUP.

M ERITORIOUS PERFOR MAN C E

A HA AVER A TRIUMPH. Horses owned and' trained in Taranaki have always played a prominent part- in- the many .principal handicaps throughout the Dominion, and yet another victory has gone down to the credit of Hawera when Bisox captured the Winter Cup yesterday at the Canterbury Jockey Clubs Grand National meeting. Bisox is a five-year-old mare by Biso<me from Canary Creeper, and was bred by Air. R. Hicks, who also bred the dam, grand-dam, and greax-grand-dam of Bisox. Since running out of the hack class, when she won at the last Otaki meeting, Bfsox lias had three starts in open company fortwo wins and a fourth, her win prior to yesterday being in the Parliamentary Handicap at Trentbam last month. That Bisox is; a good one is proved bv the fact that she won at the right end in the exceptionally fast time of 1.42 4-5 under welter weights. The daughter of Risogne lias now won up to date £1670 in stakes. Incidentally, this is the first time the Parliamentary Handicap and Winter Cup have been won by a representative from Hawera. These two wins are more pleasing by the fact that Bisox was bred and is owned' hv a Hawera resident, trained hv J. Brown, and ridden by Alan AteCormac, a Hawera jockey.
