ODDFELLOWS’ LODGE MATTERS,

At the last meeting of members of the Loyal Kaponga Bodge (Manchester Unity), N.G. Bro. H. W. Bocock presided over a good attendance. One new member was initiated and two prospective new members were ballotted for. ' . P.G. Bro. C. E. Betts submitted an interesting and favourable report on the recent fraternal visit paid to Loyal Manaia Lodge by twelve members ol the Kaponga Lodge. Lecture Master D.D.G. Af. Bro. R-. D. Dagg intends delivering at the next lodge meeting a lecture on the origin and history of the Order. A large attendance is anticipated in view of the fact that Bro. Dagg is capable of handling his interesting subject in a masterly manner. The advisability of forming a branch of the local lodge at Te Kiri will come up for discussion at the next meeting. The next quarterly meeting of the lod»e is to be held on Monday, Augcst2o. ELECTRIC POWER, SUPPLY A recent adition to the Town Board’s electric power plant which will readily commend itself to consumeers is to the erection at the upper power house of a controlling tower in connection with the Taranaki Electric Power Board’s stand-by supply. In the event of a breakdown in the local system, current may be immediately switched on from the Taranaki Board’s supply. The structure is enclosed within a substantial 12-feet guard fence as a protection against interference and possible risk to children.

BANK OFFICIAL FAREWELLED. On Friday last a pleasant gathering was held in the Kaponga Dairy Company’s board room, when Mr ±l. Uolemail was made the recipient of a mark of appreciation of his business relations with the company’s directors. L’lie majority of the directors were present and the presentation, winch took the form of a silver-mounted inscribed tobacco pouch, was made by Mr A. R. Ta.it (chairman), who referred in felicitous terms to Mr Coleman’s connection with the company during his two years’ stay in Kaponga as manager of the Bank of New South Wales. The chairman’s remarks concerning the happy relations existing between the departing townsman and the company was amply supported by his co-directors who extended their best wishes to Mr "'olcman in his new sphere of labour — New Plymouth. On Friday evening about twenty members of the Kaponga- Bowling Club entertained Mr Coleman at the residence of tlieir secretary (Mr .1. Tyack). The president- of the club, Air A. Y Tait. was again called upon to make a presentation to Mr Coleman in recogitinn of his services as secretary during the past year and of liis popularitv as an active member throughout his stay in Kaponga. Mr Tait expressed the' mingled feelings of regret and

(pleasure of those present in Air Cole- ! man’s enforced severance from the club and conveyed the members’ congratulations on his promotion to the hew Plymouth branch. The club’s gift to Air Coleman was a fountain pen m acknowledgment of which and the spirit which prompted the presentation the recipient said -he would _ always loon hack with pleasure to his sojourn in Kaponga and the many congenial spirits he had met as a result of his connection with the club. hpw Plymouth was not so very far distant as to make frequent future meetings with his o’d clubmates an impossibility, and he confidently anticipated many such in the coming season. Air O W. Carmody, postmaster at Balfour,'27 miles north of Gore Junction Southland, has been appointed to succeed Air H. H. L. Roberts as postmaster at Kaponga The date of Mi Roberts’ departure for YYaihi and Mr Carmody’s arrival is not definitely determined. hut it is anticipated that the change will be effected within the next three weeks. _____
