HERD TESTING.
THE SOUTH TARANAKI SCHEME.
DT«CU:»SE'D BV KATvAT?AMEA SUPPLIER'S. The question of her cl testing was brought before the meeting of! the suppliers of the Kakaramea Dairy Company yesterday as the outcome of a circular letter received from the secretary (Air IT. W. Smith) of the recently formed Soutli Taranaki Herd Testing Association, advising that the southern section included Alton, Kakaramea, Whonuakura, Kohi, and Waverley. It had been arranged that the fees would be collected on a commission basis by the secretaries. Discussing the matter, several suppliers considered .*>/- was too much, but. it was explained that, this would be reduced this season to 4/-, and possible- less. Mr Hall said testing was a good scheme and the present scheme carried a Government subsidy. He thought the conditions would be the same as last year. Mr Tong said that he took his own samples last ye'ar and it cost 8/- per month. With a small herd a man could easily do that. The chairman said that, if a man wanted his cows tested, he must just join the association. Ko definite •scheme of action Was made.
