Deem said that many t'-sts had been taken of Taranaki soil in different districts to see if it were deficient in lime, but it was found that, although showing that deficiency, land had been known t-o continue growing good crops for years. There was. he adecl a difference between lime deficiency and lime requirement. Actually be said heavy liming was not absolutely necessary in Taranaki and it was often better to give that lime through slag and to apply lime direct, say three to 4cwt per acre occasionally..
