The submarine Fl 4, which sank after col'.iding with the destroyer Missouri, carried a. crew of 27 officers and men, -all of whom aae dead. Some were drowned, but tin? majority were mphyxiated. It has been revealed that when 87 feet from the ocean bed a. message was received -from the submarine -stating: “The gas is advancing; we are dying!” A naval doctor was the- first to- enter/the submarine when -it was raised, and although he was equipped with a gas mask lie lost consciousness owing to the denseness of the gas, which had to be forced out by strong air currents. Eight were found in the stern, four in tlie turret and the rem/aindev in the prow.
