CYCLE ROAD RACE.

F. CL BROWN’S SECOND WIN. POSITIONS FOR. TROPHY. Keen public 'interest was displayed yesterday afternoon in the Hawera Amateur Athletic Cllub’s third race (the platings in which were published in yesterday’s “Star”), of the season’s series for the Cambria Rose Bowl, and a good crowd of spectators cheered the riders as they reached the Post Office on the completion of the 25 miles journey. In a great finish, Brown, whose handicap was lmin. 30see., took first place from A. G. Moroe, who started off the 3min. 30sec. mark. C. Walker (2inin. 30sec.) took third place, about 150 yards behind the leaders and about 200 yards clear of the three scratch men, W. Stening, J. Dykes, and 0. Griffon, who finished closely in that order. Brown, who on July 25 won this year’s second race of 17 miles off 3min. 42sec.. thus registered his second win in this season’s series. On June 20 the first race, also of 17 miles, was won off 3min by A. G. Moore, who was the runner-up yesterday. W. Stening, who has started -from scratch in all three races, has registered fastest time in each. Covering the 25 miles yesterday in 1 -hour Gmin. 45see., he clipped three minutes off the previous best time for the race, and added to the laurels already- gained on July 25, when he lowered the previous best time for the seventeen mile course.

Only one more race remains to complete the season’s series for the rose bowl. Points registered are now as follow: W. Stening 17, J. Dykes 12, F. C. Brown 12, A. G. Moore 11, C. Walker 9. C. ’ Griffen 7, H. F. Seaton 5 L. Heatley 4, S. W. Kelsen 3, H. J. G. Kelsen 1. The maximum points which may be gained by one competitor in the race being nine, only the four now closest to Stening have a possibility of overhauling him.
