W AIM ATE v. CITY Perfect weather condition# prevailed for tlio match at iManaia yesterday between the junior teams, Waimatc v. City, although a strong sun shone diagonally across the field, which at times spoilt several likely passing movements, the glare affecting the accuracy of 'clean acceptances. 'City, who had the heaviest forwards, should have won the iga me by a substantial margin, and their backs wore conspicuous for bad passing and handling, many -scores being lost through these faults. Half-time 'was called with the scores even, six all, but in 'the second session of the game the Haw era boys seemed to go to pieces, the play for the most part being open and ragged. Just before the end of the game Goodger had to retire with an injured log. 'City kicked off against the sun, following up fast to keep the game in Waimatc’s half. A free for obstruction gave the Yellows a -chance, and Hart put the ball over. City 3; Waimate 0. The Blues immediately set up an attack from the kick-out, taking play right through and Shaw scored in 'the corner. The try was not converted. City 3; Waimate 3.' Edwards missed the kick. Half-time sounded with the scores -six all. * Blues pressed from the kick-off and for sonic time the game was in 'the City’s 25. A scrum near the visitors’ line ended in favour of the Blues, the game going over to the other side of the .ground, 'City relieving by forcing. Prom the kick-out 'City looked like scoring, but a wild pass’by Watson spoil! the effort, play going back to centre, where, from a scrum, the Blues gained, M. Bourke again showing up. From a line-out at centre the Blues got possession, but Morrissey saved well witli a kick to the line. With the game in the centre the Yellows were given a free, but Hart missed, although making a good attempt. The Blue’s secured and rushed the game right back to City’s line but the pressure -was cased when the Blues were penalised. Hart improved with a good kick, finding the line near half-way. The Blues came back and W. King*showed up well with a. good solo effort. Ilis kick Was too strong and the. speedy Norris secured and forced. Scraggy play and bad passing gave the Yellows -an advantage and play went to the Blues’ line, the ball going into touch. The lineout, five yards from the line, s'aw Bourke is ecu re and take the game back to -centre. A serum in mid-field ended up with the Yellows gaining- to the opposing 25, where Bourke again came into the limelight with a. good tackle. The Blues got going with a good forward rush, Hughes going over wide out. Hencri failed to add the extra points. Waimate 9; 'City 6. With the game immediately back in the Yellows’ half. Nuku secured from a, lineout and dived over Edwards missed with a difficult kick. The game ended with the Yellows pressing li'ard. Wnimatc 12; City 6.Mr W. Badley refereed.
