MEETING OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE. RETIREMENT OF HEADMASTER. The usual monthly meeting of the Okaia wa School Committee was held on Saturday evening, when there were present: Messrs. A. Lees (chairman), A. G. Fraser (secretary), J. C. Barclay, W. G. Williams, and Alua Carr. the headmaster (Air. T. Innes) reported that, owing to an /outbreak ot influenza, the attendance at. present was only llu out of a roll number of 168. ' The school children had been very successful at the -recent V inter Show in Hawera, and had won £lO 6s in prize money after allowing for entrance fees, the children had decided to hand over the prize money to the school. The school had also again won the James and Gillman Shield in agricultural work for the tenth year in succession. 1 It was decided to make use of the money for the children’s benefit, and the chairman and secretary were appointed to make inquiries regarding the obtaining of a subsidy from the Taranaki Education Board with a view to purchasing a suitable gramophone for the school. Air. T. Innes, the headmaster, forwarded his resignation in view of his early retirement on superannuation. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Air. J. Barclay, it "was decided to accept Air. Innes’s resignation with regret, and to place on lecord in the minutes the committee’s appreciation of the splendid and- efficient service so zealously given by him during his long connection with school work. and particularly the high standard of efficiency which has characterised his work during his 19 years’ headmastership of the Okaiawaschool. The motion was carried unanimously, »the other members of the- committee also speaking in glowing terms oi Mr. Innes’s all-round capabilities as a teacher. In view of Air. Innes’s resignation and departure from the district, it was decided to call a- public meeting to arrange- a suitable farewell to Air. and Afrs. fniies.
