Deciding Minor Places
HAWERA THIRD IN SOUTH STAR THIRD IN NORTH DIVISIONAL CONTESTS FINISHED Divisional competion play in the Taranaki Rugby Union senior grade games concluded under ideal weather conditions on Saturday, though the respective winners were found last week in Okaiawa (south) and Stratford (north). In the south the only engagement met was that of Opunake and Kaponga, the former taking the honours and finishing two points behind Okaiawa in the championship ladder. In the other games scheduled Patca forfeited to Hawera, who take third! position on the ladder, and Athletic forfeited to Waimate. The principal attraction from the spectators’ point of view was a* benefit game for injured players of the Hawera Club staged by Okaiawa, who had the bye, and Hawera.
In the north the champions held off another strong challenge by Inglewood, the former finishing the season with a margin of six champioship points from Inglewood. Star, third on the list, again accounted for Tukapa, and Old Boys revenged the defeat inflicted by Okato in the first round. Eltham made a strong bid and registered a draw against Clifton.
