“LA MASCOTTE.”

OPEIIA HOUSE TO-NIGHT. People of H&wera and district will this (Monday) evening have the opportunity to see at the Opera House the production of the opera ‘‘La Mascotte,” selected for performance by the Eltham Amateur Operatic Society. The company appeared at Eltham twice, and at New Plymouth last week, and on each occasion was given an enthusiastic reception. There' is no doubt this has been well merited, for the production is probably the best yet staged by the society. Features of the performance are the brilliant scenic eflects, the. gorgeous dressing, the remarkable lighting effects and the capable and clever acting and singing by principals and chorus. The story of the opera is of fascinating interest, well worked out to a successful and happy climax, and every character in a long cast does credit to the part selected. The producers, Messrs Caruston and Baxter, have made a well deserved reputation for good and effective stage effects. This opera is one of their best. A well-directed and talented orchestra is under the control of Mr. A. Beesley. Their work ably supports the solo numbers of. the principals and the bright choruses. To-night’s performance of “La Maseotte’’ should he one of the events ol the musical season Seats may be booked at Miss Blake’s shop at the Opera House.
