HAWERA SAVAGE CLUB
IvORBRO AT NEW PLYMOUTH
On Saturday evening a large band of members of the Hawera Savage Club journeyed to New Plymouth, and took charge of tbe “Wharepuni” 0 f the hapu there. Savage M. R. Jones was duly and officially installed' as rangatira by the chief, W. S. Gibson, in a specially composed installation address, full of witty and humorous allusions to the discovery of the race in New Plymouth and the hope of cultivating friendly re-lat-ions and of opening trade with .them. A very good programme was then given by the Hawera. Savages and much enjoyed by the whole company present. The evening was in every way successful and the Visitors were very hospitably entertained by their hosts. Reference' was made; during the evening to the approaching visit of the Manawatu hapu to Hawera. The rangatira. and officials from New Plymouth will be present and probably a number of members also. The gathering of the three hapus will serve still more to. spread the feeling of camaraderie amongst savages on this coast. .
