BRITAIN OWNS LARGEST SHARE.

LATEST LLOYD’S REGISTER

(British Official Wireless.) RX/GBY, July 25. A new edition has just been issued of Lloyd\s Register, which contains the most authoritative analysis of . the world’s shipping. It gives a record of 32,800 vessels, their total tonnage being 66,954,659. Of this total ships owned in Great Britain and Ireland account for 19,875,350 tons’. Of the world’s steam and motor ships 30.3 per cent are owned by Britain, the United States being the next largest owner with 21 per cent. Then comes Japan 6.4 per cent, Germany 5.7 per cent, ‘Italy 5.1 ]>er cent, France 5 per cent, Norway 4.5 per cent, and Holland 4.3 per cent. The total percentage of sailing ships to the world’s tonnage is now only 2.7. Big liners of 15,000 tons and upwards represent only 4.2 per cent- of the world’s tonnage, and of these well over half belong to Great Britain. The motor tonnage in the world is 9.1 per cent of the steam tonnage, and Denmark is the biggest owner in this category with 37.9 ner cent, having slightly more than Sweden and Norwav.
