It is evident from to-night’s Gazette 'h-’t active steps are -shortly to be taken for the collection of -arrears of taxation from Samoan natives. The Administrate”’,s annual report ha,s recently disclosed that native taxes, which amniunt-->d to £17.840 in the* year prior to- the Muimi movement, dropped fast year to £2466. and that a % temporary loan of £30,000 was, placed at the disposal of Mie Samoan Treasury by the New Zealand Government to meet the deficiency. The Governor-General in pouncil has new approved of additional rules of the 4 <'h Court of Western Samoa,, which provide for the enforcement by a churglig cider against the interest of any native Samoan in any land, crops, timber, minerals or other valuable interest attaching to the land .in cases where jrdlgment is given against the native where the claim is for peroonal tax, Samoan medical levy, or any levy under lie native personal tax ordinance.
