On Wednesday the -local .companies of Girl Guides, Rangers, and Brownies wore entertained at a party to 'celebrate the second birthday of the Girl Guides and the -first birthday of the Brownies and Rangers. The president (Mrs Edmonds) presided over a'large attendance, including the District Commissioner (Mrs J. Houston), and Guidprs from Hawera: 'The tea tables were daintily decorated by members of the committee. The three birthday .calces were given by Mrs J. S. Church and were cut by the youngest member of each company. During the evening games were played and items were contributed by members of each company. The commissioner enrolled several new members and spoke on the -aims of the movement. The party concluded with the singing -of “God .Save the King” and ’“Taps.”

GENERAL. The Taranaki Education Board’s staff is making goad progress with the building of the new High School, and it should be occupied in the near -future. The girls of the local High School have formed a tramping club.
