EARL OF BALFOUR
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS. ROYAL CONGRATULATIONS. PARLI AMENT ART A NS’ G TFT. (British Official Wireless.) (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 25. The King and Queen and members of the Royal family were the first to send a message of congratulation to the Earl of BaJfour to-day on his 80th birthday. Hundreds of other telegrams and written messages reached Earl Balfour from all parts- of the world. A large number came from America, including some from Government officials at Washington. Earl Balfour attended a Cabinet meeting this morning, and received hearty felicitations from the Ministers. In the afternoon he was presented with a Rolls Royce motor car, for which members of Parliament of all parties had subscribed. The presentation took place- in the presence of a distinguished company of Parliamentarians within the precincts of the House of Commons-.
The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. Stanley Baldwin) paid an eloquent tribute to the great part which the Earl of Balfour had played in’the public life of this country lor close on 60 yeans.
Mr. Lloyd George (Liberal leader) spoke of the affectionate admiration he had always- had for the Earl of Balfour. and Mr. dynes, in the absence of Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, expressed the high esteem in which the Labour Party held him.
