Numerous heirlooms, have been ool'octed from parishioners in blip Devonport district to provide a new chalice for the Church of the Holy Trinity at Devonport (says the “Auckland Star.”) The Rev. H. B. Wingfield, vicar, in appealing to the people, for gifts, suggested that old gold and silver articles would be preferable to money contributions, and would not cause a. drain on the funds of the parish. Articles of much value, as antiques, including a christening mug. which had been in the possession of one family since the 18th century, and also isiiver tspoons, gd’id and silver watches of antiquated designs', were received, and the response to the appeal was so generous that sufficient silver and gold was available for a second chalice and a paten. Flrom a uo-rtion of the articles the first dial.ice has been made by Mr Reuben AVatts, the new vessel being of a mediaeval diesign, studded with Australian sapphires which were a present from Dr. Anderson, a former Bishop of Riverina, Australia.
