AMSTERDAM, July 21. The Australian athletes are going to Lloyd Hotel, where the British and New Zealand Olympic representatives are arriving on Friday. The remainder of the Australians, with the exception of Pearce, will also 'be taken ‘to Lloyd’s tho d'a v before their respective events. Mt Duff, manager, explains that he has given the Vclserbeek Hotel a fair trial, but it is to'o loud and rough. Journeys daily are extremely bad for the competitors. He was greajtlv handicapped by the extent to which the team Was committed before its arrival in England ail'd lie is naturally finding a difficulty in cancelling unsatisfactory contracts with regard to quarters and transport, especially as he was not, consulted in m'aking them. Indeed, this unfortunate error of judgment in the selection -of quarters robbed .the Australians of all advantages of early arrivals, in view of the fact, that the Canadians and Mexicans are within a stone’s throw of the stadium and others within easy distance. The claim that suitable quarters could, not be found in Amsterdam seemed indefensible. It is not too much to sav that the whole team is thoroughly fed up with the unsatisfactory arrangements. Though the four fit athletes would henceforth bo belter off than a lot of other competitors, they would not. be greatly improved as a result of the Vclserbeek experiment, which resulted in a waste of time. Late and irregular meals was liord on highly strung athletes, and it might to leave been ended days ago.
