Further evidence of the Nationalist determination to abolish traces 'of ancient China is contained in a message from Peking (re-named Peiping), stating that all Manchu marriage rites, funeral ceremonies, and processions, which have Been customary for centuries, must be abolished, the Government considering that stick do not conform to the Nationalist principles, wlii.h are revolutionary and are based upon modern ideas. The situation is quiet. Several foreign warships have arrived and are .awaiting developments. Measures have been adopted for the protection of foreign lives and property.
