HAWERA ACTIVITIES. MEMBERS’ ANNUAL MEETING. A representative attendance of members or the Hnwera Technical -Soliooil L/kl hoys' Association assembled at the annual meeting held at the school last evening. Mr A. G. Walker (president) occupied the chair. “Tne committee feels that the past year has probably been the- most successful. in the history of the assoaia,tion, and we wish to thank aill those old boys who- lua-ve assisted us by their support during the year. To them -is due the- credit for the sound position we -are in a,t the present time,” stated the annual report. ‘‘We would still like to bni-mg before your notice the fact that our membership is; not yet what it should be, and urge upon you to endeavour to induce all a’d hoys to link up with the lassociaticri. CRICKh-U' AND FOOTBALL

“Arising out of the discussion at the last annual meeting, we have pleasure in bringing before your notice that a cricket club lias been formed by the asioo.-a-tion, the membership of which is limited to- old -boys of toe- school. The chub- has had very good .season, and we would -ask your support to this new venture. We feel sure that the ellub must improve and be second to none in Taranaki; We congratulate- the- club that* its captain, Mr Stan Lay, has been -.selected to represent New Zealand at the Olympic Games and 1 : ha.s already won the British championship and created a new world’;? record for throwing the ia.ve.l-in.

“The. annual football’match was played at Stratford this year, but--we -regret the team- was not successful 1 in registering a win. although they had an enjoyable outing despite the inclemency of the* weather. The- inability of members of -the team to attend combined practices militates against a goad showing, 'hit we hope for better results- this year. After the match the team was entertained at the Medina Tea Rooms- by the Stratford Old Boys’ Club. ‘‘The cfld boys’ medal for the com.pe-t-i----tc,r gaining fastest time -in the school senior steeplechase was this- year won b-v J. St-andish. We extend to- him o-ut hearty congratulations and, wish hint further success- in this branch of sport.

SOCIAL, ASSEMBLIES. “The annual reunion hall -held in conjunction, with. the -Old Girls’ Association' proved to he a great success. The ball van this vpar held in the capacious dancing bail’ of the Winter Shew Buildings, and at the height of the dancing about 200 couples occupied the. floor. The dance was the most enjoyable yet held and the -success achieved greatly exceeded our expectations. The net profit from this function after £5 bad been dona,ted to the unemployment fund was £27 ss. our share being £l3 12s 6d “The second banquet was held in the Carlton Tea Rooms, -and while the attendance- wais not as large as expected, a riiogt enjoy able evening was spent. The banquet was: in tin? form of -a, dinner followed by a toast l-ist interspersed with item*?. We regret that the function resulted in a loss of. £4 19s Id. We would commend this function to all old boys, who-, by their attendance, show the committee tha-t their efforts are appreciated-. INCREASING MEMBERSHIP.

“We regret to report the loss during th© year of. three members of our committee, namely, Messrs Gray, Keegan, and Wl'kinson. These members have aft the district, and we wish them every success. Air L. Walker was appointed to one of the vacancies, and with his help the committee carried on for the remaining period. “The finance of the association is in a sound and satisfactory position, the surplus of asset is over Liabilities amounting to £7 11s lOd. This balance is mainlv due to the record attendance at the annual ball.. New members were elected as follow: Messrs. R. Morrissey, E. Chadwick. J. Standish, A. Clement, G. Nicholas, W. McLeod, R. Brett, F. Rodie, J. Campbell, G. Castle, W. Dymond, Iv. Foy, E. Gane, E. Hodren, R*. Sargent, R. Keys, C. Meharrv, R. McCabe, R. Murdoch.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Officers were elected as follow: President, Air. A. G. Walker (re-elect-ed); vice-president, Air. Ralph Sage; lion, secretary, Air. L. S. Hulbert (reelected); lion, treasurer, 'Man J. Alatlieson (re-elected); l'epresentative at school, Mr. W. AV. Thomas (reelected) ; auditor, Air. A. AV. Tugwell (re-elected); committee, Messrs. L. Walker, S. Carter, E. Chadwick, F. Ching. Further consideration was given to the proposal previously discussed of making an effort to secure a piano for the school, and on the motion of Air. Hulbert the committee was instructed to confer with the' school Old Girls’ Association with a view to the arrangement of a series of social evenings to provide funds for the objective. • A T otes of thanks were accorded the outgoing committee and all officers in appreciation of services rendered during the year.
