FARMERS’ VISIT TO' CANTERBURY. (By Telegraph—Pr»ss Association.) ASHBURTON, July 24. After slight rain overnight, .to-day waisi fine for the visit for over one hundred Marlborough farmers, who arrived last, evening. The visitors are How on an extensive tour of the county, inspecting prominent farms. There will be a, civic reception and concert this evening.
FIRE AT BLENHEIM. : BLENHEIM, July 24. Amended insurances on Dodson’s property, destroyed by fire, were £l5O on the buiicling and -£270 on the plant and material. The owner suffered heavy loss. THE CHALMERS SEAT. DUNEDIN, July 24. With Mr. J. McC. Dickson’s retirement three candidates will probably contest the Chalmers seat, namely, Mr. A. E. Ansell (Reform), Mr. J. Loudon (United;, and Mr. N. H. Camphell (Labour). ALLEGED THEFT OF SHEEP. WAIPUKURAU, July 24. On charges of stealing 30 ' sheep, rained at £'4B, the property of James William McNatt, a farmer of Waipukurau, and 100 slieei> valued at £IBO from Harry S. Hooper, owner of Arlington station, George Perry, of Wnipukuijau, a drover, appeared before Justices of the Peace this morning and was remanded till July 31. Bail in £4OO and a similar amount in one or two sureties was allowed. ARGENTINE TRAINING SHIP. WELLINGTON, July 24. The Argentine naval training ship President Sarmiento, arrived at Wellington at 11.15 a.m. and was received with a isialute from the shore battery at Point Jerniinglitaiin. Official calls were being paid to-dav. This evening the principal officer®, will be entertained by the Governor. There will be a luncheon at Parliament Buildings to-moirow.
