The local schoolboys will mow have the benefit of a' good football coaleh due to the kindness of Mr A. Hodge, of .the Kajpomga Club, who, has agreed to take the young idea in' hand when, they practise at Awatuna. Thanks are due also to Air D. Graham, for the use of his paddock. It is pleasing to note that A. Hodge has been selected to play in the North v. South match On August 9. He plays a' solid and consistent game, and 'like cmamy such players often gets much of the work and little of the glory. The "send-off” givteu last Tuesday ait the Awatuna school to Alary Raybouid, who 'soon leave® 'for England, was- an unaqualified success. The catering arrangements —mo small, item whein. forty -or so healthy youngsters are concerned—were well Carried out iby the children’s executive- committee. Plroe codings began with afft-ctmoOn tea, after which Phyllis Hutchings made a pleasing speech and, on behalf off the school children, .presented their gueirt with a Brownie camera. "For ©he’s a jolly good fellow” was sung with great vigour until the rafters echoed again. Nramie, rous recitations and l songs were given with an animation good to See 1 . The teachcrsi, who were guests also, quite possibly thought that their services would be necessary to show the youngsters how to carry on; never were they more greatly mistaken.,. Except for a few minor dletals the children Carried out their initial -effort of this nature in a 'highly creditable manner. Ft must be added that anxious enquiries have already been made by the younger ones as\ to whan there will ibe another ‘ ‘ Send-off. ’

On: Friday next a benefit diance for Mr Bradford' will take place at the Awatura Hall. Mr Bradford was severely injured at the beginning of the season while playing football. It is hoped and anticipated there will fee a full house. Partaculoins will appear later.

Several fn-ends of the Raybould family, which is. sailing fey the Arawa next month, gathered last Wednesday evening at Mr.W. The news of ffehie All Black victory in the second test was 1 received with great i jubilation. The pessimistic propkeci'els of a. contain Auckland critic have.for some ''time been the subject for much argument among the youths of Aiwatuna. Hif‘'.cam i e a .thud” wals the feeling remark of One 'bright 10-yeair-oQd. A striking object iessOn on the dangers of the "live wire” was afforded ' on the Eiltham Road between Awatuma amid Riverlea last' weqjk- A wire had fallen' alcroiss a' Stump and along the grass fey- the roadside. The stump caught fire and burnt for some hours, whilst a dong bdalck line showed where the wire made contact with the grass. Fortunately ait appears 'that no children passed the spot on their way to school. The break was most expeditiously repairedl by .the staff of the Kaponga power authority. R-emlarkaibLy heavy frosts .on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday covered! the paddocks with a- canopy of white, Which with the brilliant sunshine created a- most pieitureisque effect and more, than made up for the temporary discomfort and minor damage caused by the frost.
