SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL ENDS. The queen carnival in aid of the funds of the Catholic Churches at Oipunake and Piingareku, was brought to a .successful conclusion on Saturday evening. During the last week there had been a bazaar in the local town hall and a tug-o’-war tournament had been run in conjunction with it. Oil Saturday evening there was a large crowd at the (bazaar and the. various stallholders did brisk business. There were numerous side-show attractions and these also did a good ti ade. * The voting contest concluded at 11 p.m. and the members of the various committees were busy all the evening in endeavouring to dispose of the numerous -articles on their stalls. Numerous competitions were run in conjunction with the carnival. Pihama committee had charge of the supper-room and they were kept busy in supplying the needs of the- numerous customers, who patronised this section of the bazaar. During the evening Brookeiss orchestra rendered a delightful programme of music. The following-is the result of the final count of the queen carnival : Pungarehu (Miss L. Doyle), 42,223, equal To £527 15s 9d. Oaonui (Miss- M. Taylor), 30,531, equal to £447 17s 9d.
