MOTOR VESSELS INCREASE.
BRITAIN’S SHARE TOTAiL UNDER. CONSTRUCTION. (Australian Press Association—United Service.) Received 10.50 a.in. to-day. LONDON', July 17. The continued progress fif internal combustion engines is indicated m Lloyds’ shipbuilding returns for the quarter ending June 30, not only by the fact that 1,500,000 tons of motorships are being constructed throughout the "world as compared* witli 1,139,000 tons of steamers, but the construction includes sixty-five motorships of eight thousand tons and upwards, contrasted with twenty-one steamers ot a similar size. . _ ... . The total construction in British shipyards at present is 1,203,000 tons, representing a reduction ot 235,U00 tons as compared with the previous quarter. Britain is* now producing. 45 ■per cent, of the world’s ships against 57 per cent, in pre-war years.
