OPERA HOUSE. COMMENCING TO-NIGHT. QLAfRA BOW IN “HULA.” Clara Bow, the “Haming-haired madcap of the screen,” is about to madcap again with the announcement to-day that her latest Paramount production, “Hula,” will open at the Opera House to-night for a two-night season. “Hula,” according to those who have seen the latest presentation of Miss Bow, is one of the very best pictures offered the motion picture public this year. A, 9 the title suggests, it is a tale of the Hawaiian Islands, with the upper stratum of society in the limelight. ■ . The story itself iyan adaptation oi a popular modern novel which carries the same title,- and which conies from the pen of Armine Von Tempski. This cross-section of .society life in the shadow of Waikiki, tells the adventures of a.ll American girl, Hawaiianborn, who loves an English engineer. Not since “It” ha,9 Miss Bow had a vehicle so fitted for her versatility; “Hula” is a perfect story for the dashing “madcap of the screen.” In addition, it has a fine direotor and a great cast. Victor Fleming, who directed the Star in “Mantrap,” and has just completed * ‘The Rough Riiders and “The Way of All Flesh,” starring Emil Jannings, handled the megaphone. . Members of the cast- m her support are Clive Brook, popular leading man; Arlette Marchal, Arnold Kent, Albert Gran, and Agostino Borgato. The action centres about the stage, with the heroine strolling to gain renown behind the footlights. How she- finally does win treater success than -she had evei dreamed of. and then longs to cast it all aside to obtain happiness, makes the story an exceptionally absorbing one Intimate and. authentic scenes of backstage life are given in the picture, as much of the action occurs in the star’s dressing room. Beautiful trowns add their allure, and _ an able supporting cast, including Neil Hamilton "as the leading man, and Nicholas Sonssan in as the theatrical producer, contribute to make- what the critics unite in praising as one of the best filmed for a long time.
