MANGATOKI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FARMERS’ UNION BALL. In the local ball on the evening of June 27 a successful ball was. neld under the auspices of the Mangatold uranch of the Farmers’ Union. An enjoyable time was spent by all present, the ball being packed with, visitors from the surrounding districts. The hall was artistically decorated with a variety of coloured streamers, while the Walls and windows were decorated with spreads of holly. The music was provided by the Maori string band. During the evening Mr. \\ . E Carter, president of the union, thanked all for their attendance, and expressed n is surprise at having such a packed hall under, such inclement weather conditions. He announced that another ball would be held near the end of next month to assist the women’s division, which, he stated, was doing some excellent work at the present time. Messrs S. McGuinness and J. Carter excellentlv carried out the duties of M.C.s. GENERAL. Due to the prevalence of influenza in the district practically fifty per cent, •of the local school children have been absent from school this week. Euchre players are reminded of the party which is to be held on Friday evening next.
