At present twenty unemployed in Eltliam are being given work at various jobs in the borough, and of these six are returned soldiers, says the ‘‘Argus.” The widening of Mountain Road north at the borough boundary is in progress, and the job is being carried on as the weather .permits. The children’s Park opposite the borough chambers is a scene of activity just now, where six returned men are emp'oyed clearing the-section of trees and giving it a general clean-up. The planting of trees on the Soldiers’ Memorial Park is also being carried out in a preparatory way. <Jne thousand maorocarpa trees have been ordered for planting round the boundary of the park, and 6000 eucalyptus trees will take the place of others which were failures at the original planting some years ; igo.
