• KITCHEN TEA AND SOCIAL EVENING. (From Our Own Correspondent). The local hail was well filled last Friday e*eniilg, the oc-asion oeing a kitchen tea organised <oy the .local ladies tor Miss Alma Matthews, m \ jew of her approaching marriage. Dancing and vo.al items tilled a veij p.easant evening, the music being provided gratis by Miss Butler, Miss Arden, Mrs. CocKerton, M rs. i owler, Miss Gibson, and Mrs. Bennett, i iano; and Mr. E. Mils (violin). Fongs acre sung -try Miss Briggs, Otorohunga; Mr. A. Ballou ay, Norman uy ; Miss nutter, Jiuvvera ; miss Gibson, Mountain lioad, Normanby; and contributed grcatiy to the success or tlie v unction. During an interval in the dancing, Mrs. t-corge Cocker ton referred to Miss Matthew’s, approaching marriage, and, on behalf of those present, asked her to accept their contributions to her kitchen, the paicels were then opened oy Miss J. Matthews. Mr. Teller responded on behalf of Miss Matthews. Visitors were present from all parts of the province and from the Waikato.

WEATHER CON DITION S. Exceptional weather conditions prevail for this time of the year. The winter so tar has been very mild, young grass and oats are still growing strongly. On the lew wet days the rain has been warm and the atmosphere almost humid. Most farmers have started to teeci out hay, mainly to keep the cattle in tlieir present good condition, as the pastures never looked better at this time of the year. GENERAL. Top-dressing is almost completed in this district, and most farmers have manured heavily, it now teing recognised that every pound put into manure is a sa e investment witb/good'returns. The local factory is running on alternate du. : s, and will shortly close down lor the winter. One beans little of cows aborting this year, perhaps the warm weather has helped in that direction. PERSONAL. Mr. Stan Bluett is an inmate of the Hawera Hospital where he was recently operated on. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Cleaver are both inmates of the Hawera Hospital, having contracted scarlet fever. Mr. Sid Keid, who has been a patient at the Ha we, a Hospital lor about six months is making good progress.'
