THE WINTER SHOW.
HON. O. J. HAWKEN TO OPEN IT. MEETING OE COMMITTEE. The last meeting of the executive of tne South Taranaki Winter Show, prior to the opening next week, was neld last night, Mr. J. 11. Corrigan presiding. The manager rejjorted that arrangements' were well in hand for the opening on Tuesday next. A sample of the carton supplied by the Dairy Produce Board for sending samples of New Zealand butter to friends in England by local people was. provided, and was viewed with much interest by the members present. Each carton will contain four smaller cartons, just large enough to hold a pound of butter. They are decorated with the fern leaf brand, and are neatly printed and made. Excellent displays will be made by the Dairy Board as well as by the Meat and Honey Boards. The manager also reported on the success of the window, dressing competition, for which the business firms’ committee has received no less than 80 entries. In all 19 gold medals have been provided—lo by the Wellington branch of the Manufacturers’ Association —for New Zealand displays, for best display of meat in local shop, for Empire goods, and most original. Cards have been sent out for display in windows, “Empire goods and New Zealand goods are Empire builders.” There is to ho a display of work by Boy Scouts. A special feature this year will be the tea and luncheon rooms, for which improved arrangements have been made. The floor of the Defence Hall, where they are located, has been laid down in concrete, and the walls have been profusely decorated so as to make the room® more attractive. Invitations to attend the show have been sent to the Prime Minister and Ministers. Mr. W. Lambie, aetingBritisli Trade Commissioner, and to the chairmen of the Dairy. Meat, and Honey Boards. Mr. Coates, replying to the invitation, said'that as Parliament was opening the same week it would he impossible- for him to come, hut he would arrange for the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. 0. J. Hawken) to perform the opening ceremony.
