EGMONT SEAT.

MR. C. A. AVILKINSON A CANDIDATE,

STANDING AS AN INDEPENDENT

Advice that he has decided to consent to nomination for the Egrnont seat at the -orthcommg general election lias oeen received irom Mr. C. A. Wilkinson by Mr. J. W. Stubbs, Eltham. flie letter conveying this decision reads •is follows: Dear Sir, —In response to a very generally expressed request, confirmed oy. a representative deputation which waited on me at New Plymouth, and by the almost unanimous wish of the large meeting presided over by you in the alt ham Town Hall, I beg to advise that I will be a candidate at the next general election. My present position .is that of an independent, but, as I stated at both meetings above referred to, Parliamentary work must resolve itself into team work to be effectively carried out, so that if elected I must expressly reserve the right to associate myself with any kom lunation or party that- might arise which, in my opinion, will best, serve the interests of the country, and in this respect I ask the consideration of the electors, which I feel sure will be given pie. In due course my political views will iie given from the platform, and in the meantime I would ask electors not to lie prejudiced in any way, and to rely upon the fact that- under all circumstances my vote and influence will be cast ior the uplifting of the country, and for the happiness and prosperity of the people.—Yours sincerelv, C. A. AVILKINSON. Eltham, June 18, 1928.
