A I 1 ’air haven message says that Tom Heeney has commenced active training. He weighed 206 pounds after three and a half miles of road work. He boxed eight rounds, but looked slow and heavy, lus sparring partners hitting him at will. Heeney complained that the canvas, impeded his : speed in moving about. Tunney did 'eight miles of road work, andput on the gloves' for the: first time since, his last bout with Dempsey. lie held an unwitnessed workout, after which a. cut over the left eye was evident.
HATTON MAY MEET LECKIE. In the opinion of “Uppercut,” of the “Napier Telegraph,” there is only one boxer in New Zealand who is in a class to- meet Leckie, and that is Mat Hatton. Several associations are angling for this match, but the Aucklander is hard to get out of his home town. The same writer states that in any case, if he does fight away from Auckland’ he will go in the ring at Napier,, for it is understood that he has promised Napier first call on him away from the Queen City. It is just' a question of getting him away.
